Concrete sidewalk building in Beverly Hills CA - level panels that are safe to walk
Lifted, cracked panels out front catch toes and look rough. We replace them with a level new sidewalk poured on a packed base.

How do you fix a lifted or cracked sidewalk in Beverly Hills?
Concrete sidewalk building in Beverly Hills means we tear out the broken or lifted panels, dig out and pack a firm base, then form, pour and finish new concrete, so the walk sits level and meets the city's construction standards.
Most calls start with a panel a tree root has pushed up, a crack someone already caught a toe on, or a stretch that holds water after the sprinklers run. The price moves with how many square feet come out, how much broken concrete gets hauled off, how much base work the ground needs and whether roots are in the way. The schedule turns mostly on the permit side and the cure, because new concrete needs time before anyone walks on it. After I've seen your walk, you get a written estimate that explains what's included.

The right fix depends on what lifted the walk, how close the trees are and how many times it's been ground before, so I lay out the choices after I've looked.

How much does a new concrete sidewalk cost in Beverly Hills?
A residential concrete sidewalk, installed, usually costs about $3.50 to $8.50 per square foot in the Los Angeles area. Where your walk lands in that range depends mostly on how much old concrete has to come out first and how much base work the ground needs. Your written estimate gives you your own figure.
How many times can a sidewalk be ground down before it has to be replaced?
About two or three grinds is the limit, because after that the city notes the concrete may be too thin to hold up. Thin concrete can spall, which means it flakes apart, and that makes it unsafe to walk on, so the next repair has to be a full tear-out and replacement. When I look at a panel, I check how much it's been ground before so you know where you stand.
How long does a new concrete sidewalk need to cure?
One concrete industry guide says curing, keeping new concrete moist so it hardens properly, should start right after finishing and last at least three days. That can mean wet burlap under plastic, a curing compound or plain water. We keep a new sidewalk wet and covered while it cures, and I'll tell you when it's ready for foot traffic.
What causes a new concrete sidewalk to crack?
Most cracks in new flatwork, the trade's word for walks, patios and drives, trace back to a base that was raked level instead of packed, joints cut late or skipped, or a pour in the midday heat that leaves a weak, dusty top. One concrete maker also warns that water added at the site can lower strength and durability, especially in hot weather, so it's a fair question for any crew. We pack the base, cut the joints on time and keep the pour out of the worst of the heat.
How do I stop water from pooling on my sidewalk?
Usually by replacing the low panels and setting the new ones with a slight fall away from your house, so water runs off instead of sitting. Before we pour, I check where the water goes now, because a walk that tips toward the house sends it right where you don't want it.
Does a sidewalk contractor in Beverly Hills need a license?
Yes, the city's standard sidewalk drawing says the contractor must hold a valid California Class A or C8 contractor's license. C8 is the concrete class, covering forming, pouring, placing and finishing flat concrete work. That's a fair question to put to anyone who bids your walk.
What changes a concrete sidewalk job in Beverly Hills
The city's own list doesn't settle whether your sidewalk job needs a permit, because the city names applications for digging in the public right-of-way, the public strip along the street, and for hauling and after-hours work, not for building a sidewalk. So we find out what the city asks for at your address and handle the paperwork when it's needed, and if something has to come from you, like drawings, I'll tell you early. Work in that public strip also falls under the city's inspections program, which checks that contractors meet Beverly Hills standards, so we build to the city's standard sidewalk drawing.
Big street trees are the other thing, and most of what we see here is panels heaved by roots and old walks that have been ground more than once. On one of the city's own sidewalk projects, its arborist found that cutting the surface roots the new sidewalk needed would hurt the trees, which is why I talk through grinding versus replacing first. We see the same root-lifted walks on jobs in West Hollywood and Santa Monica, and if your city isn't on our list, ask us anyway.
